Who are you?

The Importance of Personal Branding

How are you presented online and offline? What skills and expertise do you have? These are the questions that we should be asking ourselves when determining our personal branding image. This week adHOME discussed the power of personal branding, and how important personal branding has become with the Internet and particularly with social media.

How you portray yourself on and offline makes up your personal brand. How you act, how you react and your general demeanour can affect how you are perceived. Your personal branding can improve the perception that others may have of you, including friends, family, and potential employers, but it can also improve the image of your current employer. The idea that what you do in your personal time does not affect your work life is a myth. Take a look at 13 people who got fired for a tweet if you don’t believe me!

The lesson learnt here is that whether you are working with a current or future employer, or if you are trying to begin or maintain a strong relationship with a friend, it is vital that you are aware of the way you brand yourself. Imagine your life as a business, and treat your personal brand with the same care that you would treat your own business with.

While we are experts in branding, we always have to remember to brand ourselves as well! Learn more about our branding capabilities or some of our work samples if you want to know more.
